The end of Social Media

Lets start off by saying this class has been pretty amazing and Mrs. James has been a phenomenal teacher!I have learned so much from the new web tools we explored. I had a special interest in the word clouds and meez! I also learned that organization of my web tools and all the websites I have explored is very important. I have enjoyed every minute of this class and for underclassmen who take this class, I would suggest taking it for a second time to learn more information about the web tools. Have a great Christmas Break!

Firefox Add-Ons

Cooliris

Cooliris is a new way to search Google images on Firefox. It has a 3d set up and makes it entertaining while searching for your topic. I searched for prom dress on my top pictures and had the chance to explore them in 3D. I enjoyed this Firefox add-on. To have access to this add-on, you have to download it first and then it will be saved in your Firefox tabs.

Destroy The Web

Destroy the web is an Add-on from Firefox that you can download as a game and destroy your page that you are currently on. After you play the game it gives you your score that you can publish. I had a fun time playing this game! 

 

Babel With Me

Babel with me is website where you can chat with multiple people and use a cool nickname.  The neat feature of Babel with me is where you can choose the language of how you want your chat translated. This website is a cool chat room.

Backgrounds

To customize your background for blogger or other wedbsites, we found a user friendly website that allows you to choose from some different backgrounds. The Cutest Blog On The Blog allows you to choose from different backgrounds and copy and paste them into your blogger gadget which changes your background. To do this, you must first choose the background you like most and copy their html code. Return to blogger and go to design where you will add another gadget and select html code. After pasting the code there, save it and view your blog to make sure it works! This website is cool and allows you to express yourself by choosing your own background.

Domain

A domain is where you can buy specific websites from different companies. The domain allows you to have a website that is easier to find using .com .net .info . org! There are many different websites that allow you to buy pages such as, Godaddy, Domain, and Name Cheap. This is a cool tool that allows people to find your website easier! The only default of it is the fact that you have to pay for it.

Bibme

Bibme is a site for someone who wants to cite either a book, web resource, magazine etc. Bibme would be a perfect site for students who are trying to site resources for a paper. For the book I sited to the left, all I did was type in the author and the book. After finding the book, Bibme sited all the information for me. I think Bibme is a creative way for students to cite their resources in correct terms.

Firefox Personas

Firefox personas are creative way of expressing yourself by changing the appearance of your web browser. The personas have different varieties of backgrounds for your web browser. To get your own Firefox personas first you go to their website and look through the different personas. After choosing the one you want all you have to do is choose wear it and it is displayed on your Firefox web browser.

iGoogle & Products

                                      iGoogle

iGoogle allows you to explore many different products and save them on to your iGoogle page. On my iGoogle page I have Tetris, iTunes Downloads, Yo Mamma Jokes, Quotes, Date & Time, Weather, Sports & Scenes, and top stories. I like iGoogle cause it allows me to be updated with all the news and entertainment. Below are products that Google offers that I have explored.

Gadgets

Blogger Gadgets allow access to many sites and labels. On my blog I have a few gadgets. I have a gadgets that is just for decorations which is a fish tank. My other gadget I have on my profile is the amazon mp3 clips. It plays about 30 seconds of music of my choice. At the bottom of my page a have a gadget that displays friendship quotes. I think the blogger gadgets are a cool tool and needs more exploring to be done.

Histats

Histats is a web site where you can get personal page counters. For our Social Media class, we have a histats page counter to see who visits our site each and everyday. The cool feature about Histats is that you can go into detail of where people are looking at your page from. For example, if Mrs. James wants to get to my page she might visit Emily's and then go to her class list and click onto my name. With Histats, it keeps track of how people view your page and how many people do each and every day.

Word Clouds

Word clouds are a cluster of words put together. There are different ways to make word clouds, If you want to have a word cloud about a wedsite all you have to do is copy and paste the url into the link like I did with the picture to the left. If you want to create your personal word cloud you can create one with words you put into the area where the words are suppose to be. If you repeat a word it will make it bigger than the rest of the text. I thought this was a cool new web tool. Visit some web sites for word clouds such as Wordle and Image Chef

Tagxedo

Image Chef

Image chef is a new tool that you can create images. I created two images to the left that express me. I liked exploring the new tools on image chef that allowed you to create personal images.

Y! Buzz

Yahoo Buzz is a new social bookmarking tool that I found. I didn't get the chance to explore more of the website but from what I did explore it was a good tool for social bookmarking site. You can chat with other member if you have them as friends and you can search for stuff on Y! buzz. I Found this site to be useful for what I did explore.

Star Doll *Virtual World*

Star doll is a virtual world where you can change the things your doll can wear. You can share your doll with other friends. I liked this site a little better than Meez.com because it was free and it had clothes that I liked. This is a cool web tool for girls. VISIT STAR DOLL

Symbaloo

Symbaloo is another of the many bookmarking sites. With Symbaloo you can set it as your home page and bookmark websites that you visit frequently. I prefer using Delicious out of all the social bookmarking sites but for a home page I believe it is quite useful. VISIT SYMBALOO

Diigo

Diigo is a social bookmarking site that allows you to bookmark multiple sites. You can have a set of list and groups where you can organize your bookmarks. Diigo is not near as easy to use as Delicious and doesn't offer as much of organization. I like Diigo but prefer Delicious for my major bookmarking. VISIT DIIGO

Delicious

Delicious is a social bookmarking tool that is one of my favorites. You can explore other people's bookmarks. If you are on a site that you want to save the information all you have to do is highlight the information and click the tag tool bar on your list of tool bars. To get the full access of Delicious you have to down load the tool bars. I enjoyed exploring new things on Delicious.                 Visit DELICIOUS

Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is where you save bookmarks to a web site and being able to tagging them with certain words or keywords. Social bookmarking is a new way where you can organize information.  You can create bookmarks and tag interesting web sites.  On websites such as Diigo or Delicious you can share with other members what you have tagged.  Users on the web sites can also see how many people have used a tag and search for all the resources that are related to that tag. With Diigo and Delicious, my favorite social booking sites, you can download a simple toolbar where if you are on a website you can simply just bookmark it or tag the web site. I enjoy the new social bookmarking sites I have learned. Here are the social bookmarking sites I use.

The meez rooms are one of the many tools meez.com has to offer. You create a room where you can invite friends to come in. There you can make you meez chat and move throughout the room. I created a plain room because it cost coins but the features that it offers are new and exciting.

This tool is a cool feature. You can create and change a meez into what you wanted to. I created a cool dancing meez with the latest dance and music. I think this tool is great and useful. The only disadvantage about the tool is that you have to play games to earn more point or add your personal money on there for certain clothes, design, etc. Other than the one disadvantage i think it is by far a great tool.

I enjoyed using the avatars. It was a new way to use the internet and it was alot of fun. Having an avatar is a safe way to express yourself. I think it was a cool feature the way you could record a voice or type one in. I had a blast listening to my new avatar. Voki allowed you to create a cool avatar for free

How I curently use Social Media

My favorite wed site by far is Facebook. I am extremely addicted to it. Having Facebook on my phone is another great feature I love about the internet.
